Cameroon – Internet Ban in NW and SW: International Bodies Ask The Government TO Restore Internet Immediately.

The Association for the Progress of Communicators (APC), orders the immediate reintegration of Internet connectivity for all citizens and residents of Cameroon.

The Association for the Progress of Communicators (APC) is a network of 50 organizational members from 36 countries, based in South Africa. According to La Nouvelle Expression, published on February 2, 2017, she fears the negative effects of the cut of the Internet connection in the Northwest and Southwest regions, prey to the anglophone crisis.

The APC therefore calls on the Government to order the immediate reintegration of Internet connectivity for all citizens and residents in Cameroon; To take urgent measures to secure the legislative and regulatory instruments in Cameroon to the International Law as regards the application of the Human rights recognized to the online space.

“We draw particular attention to the African Declaration on the Rights and Freedoms of the Internet, which provides an African framework for Internet governance and regulation in an African context. Cameroon must ensure that the rights of all persons in Cameroon are fully respected online and offline, “said APC.

The association highlights the United Nations Human Rights Council, which adopted a resolution in July 2016 on the promotion, protection and enjoyment of human rights online. This historic measure condemns measures aimed at “intentionally preventing or disrupting access to the dissemination of online information in violation of international human rights law“. The Council, it read, went further by calling on “all States to refrain and to cease such measures“.
