State Visit To Italy ... Declaration Of President Paul Biya ...

After the in camera discussions between President Sergio Mattarella and his guest President Paul Biya of Cameroon, both Statesmen briefed the press on the issues discussed.

Below is President Paul Biya's declaration.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the press,

I wish first and foremost to express my gratitude to His Excellency Sergio Mattarella for his invitation.

I appreciate the warm welcome reserved for me and my accompanying delegation by the Italian authorities.

One year ago, the President of Italy was in Cameroon for a working visit.

I am convinced that my visit today in Italy will vigorously move forward our relationship as we wish.
Our discussions a while ago were cordial,an indication that Cameroon and her friend Italy both have convergence views.

The fight against against terrorism was a major highlight of my discussion with my brother Sergio Mattarella.

I reiterated to the President of Italy our gratitude to him and their support in this fight
I want to cease this opportunity to thank other countries and international bodies for their continuous support to my country in the fight against this nefarious sect.

The support has enabled us to meet the security, economic and humanitarian challenges needed in times like this.

We also discussed the political situation in Cameroon

I had the opportunity to brief my counterpart on the consolidation of our democracy.

We talked about the situation in the North West and the South West regions of Cameroon.

I assured President Sergio Mattarella the attachment of the majority of our citizens to peace in our country.

Cameroonians are attached to peace and unity and that is why my government is opened to dialogue with strict respect of the constitution.

We agreed on a sustainable solution to the global climate change which is peaceful resolutions and negotiations.

President Sergio Mattarella and I agreed to reinforce the role of the United Nations and to press the reforms of the Security Council.

Concerning major sustainable development problems and the environment ,we promised to vigorously follow up the resolutions of the United Nations on global warming.

I equally applauded the Italian initiative to reinforce cooperations with Africa especially through the European Union and our Continent.

In the same light,I wished success to the Ministerial Council scheduled for Rome in the month of May within the Italy-African framework.

We also discussed migration and their impact on the regional and international community.

Our two countries are both concerned so we agreed that this can only be solved through understandings between countries of origin, transit and destinations taking into consideration international solidarity.

On a bilateral level we have greed to foster our cooperation in areas where it was already active, that is; in the University and humanitarian domains.

Let me add that our aim to make Cameroon an industrial country cannot be attained without countries like Italy.

It is for this reason that Cameroon has for some years now been interested in the industrial and manufacturing giant that Italy possesses
State Visit To Italy ... Declaration Of President Paul Biya ...We particularly think of the wood, leather, marble and the agro-industrial sectors

Ladies and Gentlemen these are the positive perspective that open up to our two countries.

I hope our two countries will cease the opportunities that President Sergio Mattarella and I have put forward.

If that was to be the case,Italy would undoubtedly be one of our true partners

Thank you
