Zimbabwean Political Parties To March Against Grace Mugabe

Zimbabwean political parties and pressure groups plan to march against first lady Grace Mugabe at the International Relations Department in Pretoria today.

The organisations say they want to see the first lady prosecuted following allegations that she assaulted 20 year old Gabriella Engels with an extension cord at a Sandton hotel last Sunday.

The department has confirmed that the Zimbabwean government has requested for diplomatic immunity for its first lady.

The National People's Party's Vimbia Mupunga says political parties will be joined by civil rights groups including Zimbabwean social movement Tajamuka in submitting a petition against Mugabe.

He says she is a hypocrite.

“She addressed a rally where she claimed to fight for human rights and she went on to say ‘people who beat other people must be prosecuted’.”

Mupunga says the first lady is not above the law and therefore should face prosecution.

Lobby group Afriforum has indicated that it is prepared to take the International Relations Department to the high court if Mugabe's immunity is granted. Zimbabwean Political Parties To March Against Grace Mugabe.
