Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz Arrested for Sharing Indecent Content On Social Media

Tanzania’s top music star Diamond Platnumz has been arrested for posting pictures that authorities say breach cultural norms. Communications Minister Dr. Harrison Mwakwembe revealed on Tuesday in parliament that the images project acts that go against a law that bans such acts.

Dr. Mwakyembe also instructed the authorities to arrest entertainer, Nandi after she posted indecent videos on social media last week.

He was responding to a supplementary question from Ulanga Member of Parliament, Goodluck Mlinga, who sought to know, what the government was doing against people, who are misusing social media platforms.

“We haven’t remained idle as you remember we passed Electronic and Postal Communication Act (EPOCA) regulations recently and for your information we have arrested a popular musician, Diamond, for posting indecent content on social media,” he told the Parliament

Some people on social media are speculating that the Diamond Platnumz was getting back at his former partner who left him.

Last month Tanzania’s authorities banned 13 songs by local artists including Diamond.

It came after President John Magufuli complained about obscenity in music videos.
