Breaking News - Coup At AFM Zimbabwe

The AFM Zimbabwe church broke into two on Saturday after a rebel group led by vice president, Reverend Cosum Chiangwa staged a coup, toppling the leadership of Reverend Aspher Madziyire in a vote of no confidence at Rufaro in Chatsworth.

A vote of no confidence by the national workers council was passed on president, Reverend Madziyire, Secretary Reverend Amon Madawo, legal advisor Tawanda Nyambirai and national administrator Elder Munyaradzi Shumba.

On the other hand, Madziyire is adamant that the rneeting on Saturday by the national workers council was illegal and he will be approaching the high court to nullify the outcorne of the gathering.
According to the pre-weekend AFM structure, an elected presicient and apostolic council serve a three-year term which can be extended as long as they are re-elected into office. The supreme board of the AFM is the national workers council.
The apostolic council runs the church on behalf of the national workers council with Madziyire being chairman of both the workers council and national council whose membership is drawn from AFM's 26 provinces.

While Chiangwa and his backers were staging a coup in Chatsworth, Madziyire was on Saturday announcing election dates (see separate story). Rev Chiangwa is the Overseer of AFM Harare West Province, started his Pastoral work in Chegutu in 1980 and has been to places like Shurugwi, Glen Norah, Mhondoro and finally Marlborough in Harare.

Chiangwa's deputy is Reverend Amon Nyika Chinyemba, who has been in charge of Harare East province as the chairman.
