Cameroon Elections - Maurice Kamto Insists and Stand By His Presidential Victory!

In an interview with the French newspaper Libération, Maurice Kamto explains his last outing last Monday at the headquarters of his political party, the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC).

Maurice Kamto in particular shot and scored the penalty.

A statement that sparked strong reactions from both the government and the ruling Democratic Rally of Cameroonian People (CPDM) and other opposition candidates. The latter, like Garga Haman Adji (ADD) and Joshua Osih (SDF) blasted the attitude of this challenger Paul Biya.

“I have no comment to make at this stage. It may just prove that some opponents are colluding with the outgoing president. For the rest, I feel in my right, no offense to the mourners and the frightened virgins. Cameroon is a country where, unfortunately, we used to wait, “he said.

According to Maurice Kamto, “under Paul Biya, the populations were” zombified “, paralyzed. For a long time there was a sort of Stockholm syndrome in this country, where people ended up loving their executioners. In my meetings, however, I had the feeling that people were resuming their taste for hope.

And how can we believe for a moment that Cameroonians today would be able to return to power through the ballot box an 85-year-old man, who has reigned supreme for thirty-six years, has launched so many projects, none of which have been completed, while all were even overcharged? I traveled the country during this campaign, we must see the state of the roads, classes with 150 students, the poor state of health of the country …!

Who decreed that the power was granted for life? Yet this is what a lieutenant of the Biya has just said by declaring that a Bantu chief dies in power. And does not anyone react? ”

Returning to his statement, Maurice Kamto said: “We did it on the basis of reliable information that we have already gathered. In most countries of the world, the results are announced the same evening or the day after the vote.

In Cameroon, the Constitutional Council, all of whose members are appointed by the President, has fifteen days to do so. Why such a delay in 2018 when we have the means to compile the results more quickly? We know that there has been fraud: in the north of the country, communications were cut between 6 pm and 7 pm for no official reason.
Nevertheless, with the minutes in our possession, I am certain of an undeniable victory. Why wait? All I claim is alternation by the ballot box. I did not do anything criminal.

And to those who believe by their interpretations that he incited the rebellion by asking young people to go down in the street: “Read my statement: I never incited to insurrection. I spoke of “change in peace”, I offered immunity guarantees to the outgoing president. We will peacefully but firmly defend the results we have compiled.

But legality is only valid if the laws are right. Let’s stop thinking that the flawed institutions of this country are credible. In 2014, the regime passed a law, which under cover of anti-terrorism actually limits any freedom of expression and manifestation. I was one of the first to fight this draconian law.

There are also laws that keep in bondage. ”
