Cameroon: Matomba Rejects Maurice Kamto’s Post Election Protest Calls

The flag bearer of the United People for Social Renovation at the October 7 Presidential election Serge Espoir Matomba has revealed he has turned down a request from Maurice Kamto to join him in post election protests.

Serge Espoir Matomba released a statement in which he distanced himself from protests organised by Kamto’s supporters describing such protests as illegal.

Matomba said his call for a pre and post election strategy were ignored by Kamto when both men were negotiating for a coalition ahead of the October 7 election so he see no need in the various post electoral moves being undertaken by the CRM flag bearer.

Maurice Kamto has engaged a series of actions since the Constitutional Council proclaimed Paul Biya winner of the October 7 Preesidential election as his supporters have been planning protests to denounce what they call an electoral hold up.

Heowever, Serge Espoir Matomba has rather called on Maurice Kamto and other opposition parties to join him build a strong opposition coalition ahead of the Municipal and Legislative elections next year.
Matomba who conceded defeat to Paul Biya immediately after the proclamation of the results said he is working to see the opposition win 300 councils and 100 seats in parliament next year.
